A Capela Town Council: tourist routes
Caaveiro route:
On the same heart of the “Fragas do Eume” national nature reserve, placed between the Eume and Sesín waters is set up, imposing, the Caaveiro Monastery “en lugar fragossissimo, assi que cuesta muy caro el llegar a él a pie, que a cavallo casi es impossible, y con eso tiene bien fundada la soledad”, as one medieval historian relate
We
start our route in As Neves, starting on the hydro plant road until we
arrive at Estoxa (1 km), where we turn away to the “Pazo”
(Manor House), where we make our first stop to visit the governing house
and the “Santiago da Capela” parish church. This church has
romance plan that dates from Xll century and, in the outside, the bell
cage tower and his slim crossing have a special relevance.
After this little stop we will continue to Pousadoiro, a place uninhabited
nowadays, where the trail, antique medieval track, that led us to the
Monastery starts. The descent begins, going step by step into the leafiness
of the atlantic forest regarded as the biggest of the european continent.
In that way surrounded by oaks trees, chestnuts, ashes trees, silver birches,
laurels and hollies trees and by an exuberant vegetation composed of bushes
and ferns, we will get to the most emblematic historical whole of the
town council, the “San Xoan de Caaveiro” monastery. There
are references about this monastery since X century. In spite of their
state (it is being restored by the Deputation of A Coruña) their
walls are a hard-to-equal balcony to enjoy the view of the “Fragas
do Eume” national nature reserve.
After a break, we will return going by the same way or going on by the way under the “Casa do Caseiro”, which goes up in zigzag until the road which goes from as Neves to the Plant.
The way through the “Fragas” is hard but it is worth, that’s why I am sure we will repeat this experience soon because here, every station, every day and every moment of the day is different and unique. Once we have finished our walk it is time to enjoy the excellent gastronomy of our town council, in each of our settlements that offer the visitors in every moment kindness and a good service.
