A Capela Town Council: Fragas del Eume

The nature reserve of the "Fragas del Eume" gathers Europa´s best coastal Atlantic forest with a flora of botanical international repulation and a fauna in someone of the cases with spacies(kinds) in danger extincion.


Nowadays its enormous patrimonial importance and ecology come stated by the genius from a similar landscape to which it does thousands of years abounded in Galicia.

This space - of something more than 9000 hectares -, comprises of the river basin of the Eume river, being able to define the great majority of its land like of average mountain, and characterizing its landscape by a strong intervention of the man.

The zone is characterized to have a varied geology, counting on very important a landscaping and geologic value. It
includes materials pertaining to two diverse different and granitoides dominions, as well as tertiary deposits and quaternary coverings.

The routes on foot of the city council of the Capela pass by "Fragas del Eume", and they constitute an example of consevation and enjoyment of the particular ecosystem of this environment.

In the "Fragas del Eume", we can find numerous samples of the existence of a megalithic important culture.

The greater artistic historical esplandor is related to the mediaval time, represented by the Monastery of Caaveiro (declared artistic historical monument).

In order to protect this natural space of so high value, the Fragas of the Eume was including in the Natural Network at level of the European Union by virtue of the Director 92/43/CEE of the Council, of 21 of May of 1992, relative one to the conservation of the natural habitats and the wild fauna and flora (Director habitats), with the objective to safeguard the more important natural spaces of Europe, like Place of Comunitarian Importance (LIC) within the Special Zones of Conservación (ZEC)
